Lot No. Attributes — freely configurable lot properties

Beyond the standard lot data (length, weight, quality, certificate), DXSteel lets you tag lots with free attributes. Examples: Colour, Heat Number, Supplier Lot, Roll Temperature. Administrators define which attributes exist and which values are allowed; users then assign those values to individual lots during warehouse operations.

The attribute model

  1. Attribute (Lot No. Attribute) — defines what is recorded (the name) and which value type (Option / Text / Integer / Decimal).

  2. Attribute Value (Lot No. Attribute Value) — only for type Option: the predefined list of allowed values.

  3. Value Map (Lot No. Attribute Value Map) — the actual assignment of values to lot instances.

  4. Optional translations per attribute and per value.

Setup workflow — add a new attribute

  1. Open Lot No. Attributes.

  2. Click New. Fill in Name (e.g. "Colour"). DXSteel assigns an internal ID automatically.

  3. Pick Type: Option — closed list (define values next).Text — free text.Integer — whole number.Decimal — decimal number.

  4. Optionally fill Unit of Measure (e.g. "°C" for temperature, "ppm" for concentration).

  5. If type Option: open the subpage Lot No. Attribute Values and add the allowed values (Red, Blue, Black, …).

  6. For multi-language sites: fill Lot No. Attribute Translations and Lot No. Attribute Value Translations.

Day-to-day use — assigning values

  1. Open a Lot No. Information Card.

  2. In the Lot No. Attributes factbox you see every defined attribute.

  3. Click a value to edit, or open the full Lot No. Attribute Value Editor.

  4. For lots arriving from a production or receipt flow: attribute values can also be set in the posting dialogs.

Filtering by attribute — Filter Lot Nos. by Attribute

During sales, picks or warehouse transactions, open Filter Lot Nos. by Attribute to select lots by criteria. Example: Show all lots where Colour=Red and Heat Number starts with 'HX-'. The result can be copied straight into pick or sales lines.

Best practices

Define attributes before go-live. Adding later works, but lots without values show blank in factboxes — that creates confusion.

Use Option for strict closed lists (colour, class, supplier group). Use Text for free strings (heat number, supplier lot). Avoid Text for values you later want to report on or filter — Option is more consistent.

Change warnings

You can't change the type of an attribute that has already been assigned to lots ("You cannot change the type of lot no. attribute %1, because it is either in use or it has predefined values"). DXSteel also asks for confirmation when renaming or deleting an active attribute.

Common errors

Message

Resolution

"The lot no. attribute with name '%1' already exists."

Attribute name must be unique — choose a different one.

"You cannot change the type of lot no. attribute '%1' …"

Type locks once the attribute is in use. Create a new attribute.

"This lot no. attribute has been assigned to at least one item. Are you sure you want to rename / delete it?"

Confirmation prompt when modifying an active attribute.
