Materials
A Material in DXSteel is a high-level classification of steel families or alloy classes (carbon steel, stainless 304, tool steel, โฆ). Each Item Profile can reference one material to classify the steel type for filtering, reporting, price-list organisation and certification.
Setup workflow
-
Open Materials via Tell Me.
-
Create one record per steel family with a short Code and a clear Description.
-
Link materials to profiles via the Material Code field on the Item Profile card.
-
For multi-language sites: fill in Material Translations.

Best practices
Stay broad and categorical: 5โ10 wide categories is better than 50 fine ones. Example: CS (Carbon Steel), SS304, SS316, TOOL, ALU. Finer discrimination already happens via Quality and Item Profile.
Changing a Material description cascades through lookup relations on all linked Item Profiles. Deletion is only allowed if no profile still references the material.
