Transport master data
Four masters underpin the transport module. Set them up once during implementation.
1. Transport Equipment
Vehicle types with capacity constraints. Example: 3.5T-VAN, 40FT-CONTAINER, TRAILER-STEEL. Capacity drives DXSteel load actions against max weight/length/pieces.
2. Transport Routes
Predefined route codes with pickup/delivery areas and route specifications. Used by planning to suggest "the right route" on a transport order.
3. Transport Preferences
Per customer or vendor: default equipment, route, priority, opening hours. Stops planners from picking the wrong vehicle for a customer with strict windows.
4. Transport Prices
Cost matrix by route, destination, or fixed rate. Drives transport costs visible on transport orders and (downstream) on sales/purchase orders.
Best practices
Start small: 3-5 routes and 3-5 vehicle types cover 80% of cases. Add exceptions only when they recur.
Set transport preferences for your top-10 customers. Prevents planning errors and directly improves customer satisfaction.
